How this profile was researched
  • Tax data: Use official Porezna uprava (Croatian Tax Administration) website for personal/corporate rates, brackets, social contributions. Calculate effective rates accurately for each income level. Note municipal discretion in PIT rates (15–33% ranges). Verify 2025 amendments from KPMG and official sources.
  • Visa data: Cross-reference official MUP (Ministry of Interior) visa pages, EU immigration portal, and official embassy guidelines. Include ALL visa types: digital nomad, work, EU Blue Card, investor, family reunification, student. Document income thresholds, processing times, renewal rules. Note digital nomad tax exemption and 12-month non-renewable limit.
  • Aufenthalt/Citizenship: Use official government sources (gov.hr, MUP, citizenship guidelines). Document 183-day tax residency threshold, PR eligibility (5 years legal residence), citizenship pathway (8 years + B1 language + civics test). Verify dual citizenship allowance and no renunciation requirement.
  • Cost of living: Use 2025–2026 data from Numbeo, Expatistan, local sources. Document regional differences (Zagreb cheaper than Dubrovnik/Split). Note euro adoption impact (20–50% price increases 2023–2024) and wage stagnation. Provide realistic ranges, not just averages.
  • Be specific: Include measurable data (internet speeds, healthcare wait times, bureaucratic timelines) rather than vague descriptions.
  • Be honest: Include real cons (bureaucracy delays, housing shortage, healthcare strain, winter seasonality) alongside advantages.
  • Include sources: Add URLs and publication dates for all claims so data can be verified and updated.
  • Verify currency: Always use EUR; no conversions applied. Document all amounts as found in official sources.
  • Update alerts: Flag time-sensitive changes (new visas, tax regime changes, policy updates) with expiration dates.
