A UAE relocation is not one purchase. The same address can serve an employed newcomer, a foreign remote worker, a founder and a family while each has different legal permission, bank evidence, insurance responsibility, school timing and cash exposure. Dubai-specific processes cannot simply be copied to Abu Dhabi, Sharjah or Ras Al Khaimah.

The short answer

First establish each person's lawful basis to live and do the intended work in the UAE. Then build a date-based plan for the home, insurance, bank, schools, shipment and first usable income. Buy full coordination only when it owns the dependencies between those tasks; buy regulated immigration and tax advice from professionals qualified for the relevant jurisdictions.

What this guide does that a package list cannot

The current service results are strongest at describing removals and naming providers. They rarely show how a job site, residence status, spouse, school place, lease, first rent, bank onboarding and shipment arrival constrain one another. We turn those connections into a decision dossier: a written route memo, a three-horizon cash-flow, two scored home options, a dependency timeline, comparable provider proposals and an end-of-engagement handover.

This guide is not a substitute for an individual residence-route assessment. Here, a route matters because it changes what relocation help to purchase and when to commit money. For the residence routes themselves, see our separate UAE residency profile.

When to buy a coordinator

Use one when a delay in a single workstream causes expensive changes elsewhere: an employer start date controls family travel; a school's location changes the home; the home's registration affects setup evidence; a bank's review delays rent or company payments; a shipment needs customs documents before landing. A solo employee with a confirmed employer, no dependants and no freight may need only targeted document or housing help.

Before the paperwork

Test the ordinary week, not the holiday version

“Dubai” is often shorthand for a plan whose work, home and school are not in the same place. One 2025 Texas family discussing an aviation job did not yet know whether the actual site was in Dubai or Abu Dhabi. That is not a minor map detail: it changes the home search, commute, school radius, transport budget and whether a housing allowance is adequate. Get the actual site, work hours and expected travel in writing before choosing a district.

Set five move-killers before paying a non-refundable fee: no lawful work route for a key adult; insurance unavailable or medically unsuitable; no workable school place; a first-year cash need the household cannot fund; or a daily commute and heat/transport pattern the family cannot accept. For a founder, add a sixth: the proposed company cannot lawfully or commercially perform the planned work. For a wealth household, add the quality of cross-border advice, evidence and liquidity—not merely programme eligibility.

Firsthand question pass

What mover questions reveal—and what they cannot prove

Our capped social-research pass returned 85 Reddit records from two accessible threads, 240 public Facebook posts plus comments from two groups, eight exact forum pages and four full YouTube transcripts. The seeds were chosen for specific gaps, not random sampling. Ten Reddit seed threads returned nothing, one Facebook group returned an error, and much of the Facebook output was ads or listings. The following accounts reveal decisions to check; none establishes law, average costs or how common a problem is.

The returning Canadian family: salary answers changed with the assumptions

A former Dubai resident who had left for Canada as a single person was considering returning in 2025 with a spouse and two children. Replies called the same stated monthly income comfortable, tight and impossible. The disagreement largely turned on villa versus apartment, school allowance, location and commuting—not a precise universal salary cutoff. The actionable question is: what exact school, home and employer benefit does the household's figure buy?

The Texas aviation family: the package may be larger—or smaller—than the headline

Another 2025 family of four considering a move from Texas had a quoted annual salary and possible housing, school, food, health and travel allowances. The discussion could not tell whether those were on top of pay or included in it. Nor was the work site settled. Some commenters also gave contradictory US tax advice. The family needed an employer benefits schedule, exact job location and qualified US/UAE tax review before comparing net outcomes.

The deposit, bank and school questions that a “visa package” misses

A September 2026 Dubai group member had paid a booking/security deposit before signing a lease or obtaining Ejari, then wanted to withdraw. Another newcomer on a dependent visa reported a bank-verification failure and wondered whether tax-ID evidence was the cause. An Abu Dhabi-bound British parent asked about a suitable school near the work area, not merely the emirate's school list. None of these posts supplies an authoritative answer to the individual case. Together they show why a good brief includes pre-payment checks, a bank-evidence plan and a school–home–work map.

Deposit question ↗ · Bank question ↗ · Abu Dhabi school/location question ↗

The free-zone traveller: one question contained five separate legal tests

An undated forum poster proposed a free-zone freelance business, a UAE visa, bank account and frequent travel, then asked whether an annual Ejari and 183 days were necessary. A reply promoted setup help while giving a blanket rule. The Federal Tax Authority's guidance is more nuanced. The valuable anecdote is the confusion itself: visa validity, domestic tax residence, a tax-treaty certificate, housing evidence, bank onboarding and residence in another country must be answered separately.

A UK couple with two dogs needs more than one business or pet answer

A forum couple considering a move from Kent described one partner's work for a London client, freelance interior-design activity, the other's company directorship and two dogs. A single “Dubai company package” cannot determine the permission, tax and payment position of all those activities; neither can a pet-mover quote replace the origin-country export certificate and UAE import checks. The useful first deliverable is a two-adult activity map and two-pet document timeline, with the household's actual home and transport needs alongside them. The forum page does not disclose a publication date, so we use it as a question pattern, not as a dated market signal.

School language and the daily pickup are two separate decisions

One September 2026 Abu Dhabi group post came from a Texas family seeking continuity for a four-year-old who speaks Spanish. Another parent needed a four-days-a-week midday school pickup across two Abu Dhabi areas. Neither post proves that a particular school or driver is suitable. Together they expose a practical gap: a school shortlist must include curriculum and language fit, a confirmed place, fee sheet, exact timetable, transport availability and the cost of a fallback when a parent cannot make the journey. The right district is the one that works for the real child and workday, not simply a school pin on a map.

A spouse's income and a child's care cannot be assumed to start together

A Dubai family arranging an August 2026 move expected the working parent and infant to arrive first, then needed short-term childcare almost immediately. A separate public question asked whether a spouse sponsored by a free-zone resident could work for a mainland employer. The replies are not a legal opinion. A family proposal should name who watches the child during the first workweek, what temporary care costs, when each adult is permitted to work and which employer will obtain the required permit. Otherwise a household budget can count two incomes before the care and work-permission arrangements exist.

The first fork

Choose the right permission before building the move

The UAE has federal residence frameworks and emirate- or authority-specific implementation. Nationality, sponsor, work model, qualifications, salary/income, family and intended business activity matter. A visitor cannot work merely because an employer interview, company application or property purchase is underway. Get a written route assessment stating the issuing authority, evidence, permitted activity, family rights, conditions and fallback.

ProfileOfficial route or permission questionWhat the relocation brief must add
Employed individual or familyWhich employer sponsors residence/work, and when may employment begin?Exact work site, employer-paid fees and benefits, spouse/children sequence, insurance, school and first-pay date.
Skilled self-sponsored workerDoes the current five-year Green Residency skilled-worker test fit the UAE contract, occupational level, degree and AED 15,000 monthly minimum?Independent eligibility check and employer obligations; do not convert a salary threshold into automatic approval.
Foreign remote workerDoes the one-year virtual-work route fit work for an entity outside UAE, at least US$3,500 monthly income, insurance and medical requirements?Client/employer geography, health cover, tax/source-country advice, address and renewal plan.
FreelancerIs the proposed activity covered by the needed permit/licence? Does the Green self-employment route's MOHRE permit, qualification and income/solvency evidence fit?Invoice and client model, payment access, business records, VAT/corporate-tax review and a back-up residence path.
Founder or directorWhich mainland/free-zone licence permits the activity, and which separate residence/work route applies?Ownership, actual management/work location, payroll, bank/payment stack, beneficial ownership, annual filings and closure cost.
Investor or private-wealth householdDoes a specific Golden Residency category or other route fit documented investment or talent evidence?Source of wealth and transaction funds, cross-border tax, family governance, property/legal review and regulated investment boundary.
Spouse, child or other dependantCan the resident sponsor this particular person and what evidence, income, insurance and medical steps apply?A separate file, work-right confirmation, school/health plan and sequence for each family member.

As of this review, ICP describes Green Residency as five-year self-sponsored residence. Its skilled-worker route lists a UAE contract, MOHRE occupational level 1–3, a bachelor's degree and at least AED 15,000 monthly salary. The self-employed route requires an eligible MOHRE permit, qualification, and annual freelance income of at least AED 360,000 in each of the preceding two years or evidence of financial solvency. These are different tests; a foreign remote employee is not automatically a Green freelancer. ICP describes Golden Residency as a ten-year renewable category-based programme, not a reward for any property purchase. Always verify the chosen category on the live authority service.

UK movers: a new British mover needs a fitting UAE route; a visit visa does not authorise work. UK tax departure is a separate statutory-residence question. Do not resign, start local work or assume the UK position changed because a UAE residence card was issued. GOV.UK entry guidance ↗

One household, different operating models

Keep the personal move intact—then add the work or wealth layer

A freelancer, founder or investor still needs a lawful personal route, a usable home, health cover, day-to-day payments and a safe arrival plan. The business or private-wealth work sits on top of those needs; it does not replace them. Ask for two connected workplans when both layers matter, with one person accountable for dates that collide. An incorporated company can be ready to invoice while its owner still lacks the right personal status, a suitable bank account or a home where the family can function.

Individual, couple or employee: what must work in the first month?

For a straightforward move, do not buy a complex company or investment package just because the provider markets it as “full service”. Confirm the permitted work start, insured start date, temporary accommodation, a payment method that works before the first salary, the housing inspection and the actual commute. If an employer pays for immigration, flights or shipping, obtain the signed benefit schedule before paying a second adviser for the same work. A couple should also test whether one partner's income, professional continuity or childcare is being assumed away. Family sponsorship gives a residence question; employment remains a separate permit question for the hiring establishment. Ask for a written division of responsibility between the household, employer, mover and any coordinator.

Remote professional or freelancer: map the activity before buying a licence

A foreign employee working for an overseas entity, a self-employed consultant invoicing foreign clients, and a person serving UAE customers can look similar on a laptop but present different permission, tax and banking facts. Record who contracts with the client, where the work is performed, the customer country, who receives payment and whether any staff or office are needed. The UAE virtual-work route describes work for an entity outside the country; it is not a catch-all local consultancy permit. For a freelancer, ask the adviser to identify the specific activity, competent licensing authority, work permission, residence basis and annual renewal conditions. Then ask the bank or payment provider what contracts, invoices, ownership and expected transaction pattern it will review. Do not sign a lease or quote local clients on the strength of a generic “freelance visa” advert.

Founder or director: test the business on its first invoice, not its certificate

A formation quote can exclude the actual activity, premises, employees, accounting, beneficial ownership, tax, payment tools and closure. Compare mainland and free-zone proposals against the real clients and delivery location; a Dubai free-zone licence is not an unrestricted mainland trading permission. Request a year-one operations schedule: licence and office, immigration/work status for the owner, payroll, bookkeeping, VAT and corporate-tax position, bank due diligence, invoicing and renewal dates. Stress-test the case where the company is licensed but the bank asks for more evidence or declines, or where the founder's family needs a different arrival date. The adviser should state which tasks it performs and which are government, bank, accountant or client decisions.

Private wealth: keep residence, property and investments independent

“High net worth” is not a UAE immigration category by itself. A Golden Residency application depends on the applicable ICP category and supporting evidence; a property reservation or large transfer cannot substitute for that assessment. Build a chronology of how the wealth was created, the legal owner of each asset, the source account for each planned transfer, family interests, tax residences and future income or disposals. This can be reused—securely and only as requested—across bank, immigration, property and tax work without pretending those institutions apply one common test. Obtain independent advice on property title, cross-border tax, succession and regulated investments. Ask every introducer whether it receives a commission and whether its recommended structure still makes sense if the residence or purchase does not proceed.

The move has two ends

Leaving the UK or US changes the UAE service brief

The UAE-side route is only half the file. Tax residence, pets, pensions, employment, businesses, bank records, healthcare and property obligations can continue in the departure country. A UAE adviser should make the limit of its jurisdiction clear and name the handoff to a qualified source-country professional. This is especially important where a household has two earners, a company, an older child or an asset sale timed near departure.

From the UK: separate the visa, the tax year and the household shipment

A new British mover needs a fitting UAE residence and work route; citizenship or a holiday visit does not supply one. Before resignation or a long lease, ask for the UAE work-start sequence and a UK statutory-residence analysis based on days, homes, work and other ties. Do not infer that receiving an Emirates ID itself ends UK residence or obligations. If a UK company, directorship, pension, rental property or substantial investments remain, list them separately for the relevant advisers. For a shipment, ask for export and UAE customs documentation and the point at which the destination agent takes responsibility. For dogs or cats leaving Great Britain, the UK has a UAE-specific export health certificate process; the UAE import permit, port release, airline and landlord requirements are separate. The forum couple with mixed work and two dogs is a useful rehearsal of this multi-file problem, not proof of their eventual outcome.

From the US: compare the package after US obligations and arrival cash

The Texas family discussion illustrates why a US-dollar salary cannot be translated into a UAE lifestyle verdict until housing, school, insurance, flights and the job site are written down. US citizens and resident aliens abroad remain within US worldwide-income rules, even if a UAE residence is granted; eligibility for exclusions or credits and filing need US-qualified advice. Ask where the employer's benefits sit in the compensation figure, when they start and whether they cover dependants. Then price temporary housing, school admissions, medical cover and the first usable payment method before assuming the first payroll date solves all cash needs. A US family seeking language continuity for a child in Abu Dhabi adds school curriculum and transport to that same decision.

From another country: produce a departure-country handoff, not a generic checklist

A Canadian returnee, a European freelancer and a family joining a working spouse in Ras Al Khaimah may share a destination but not the same source-country tax, pension, licence, pet-export or document rules. Ask the provider to list which departure tasks are in scope, which require an origin-country professional, and which original records must be obtained before leaving. One undated RAK forum question came from a family joining a spouse already working there: the immediate practical need was to choose where the family could live, while also confirming each dependant's residence, school, healthcare, transport and bank access. That is why the quote should follow the household facts and the actual emirate, not a Dubai-only template.

Dependency timeline

The order matters more than a promised “two-week move”

StageDecision and evidenceCommitment to avoid until cleared
1. FeasibilityRoute memo for every person; actual work/business location; written net package; school/insurance feasibility; tax-country map.Non-refundable long lease, school or shipment decisions based on an assumed route.
2. Document preparationPassport and family relationship evidence, qualifications, employment/business documents, attestation/translation needs and expiry windows.Ordering short-lived evidence so early that it expires before filing.
3. Application and temporary baseNamed filing owner, authority correspondence, expected medical/ID steps and temporary accommodation through uncertainty.Assuming an application receipt or a visit entry gives permission to work.
4. Permanent home and operationsInspected home, signed terms, applicable registration, insurance, bank dossier, utility and connectivity plan.Paying an ambiguous booking deposit or shipping to an address not ready for delivery.
5. Family and freight arrivalEach dependant's status, confirmed school and health cover, customs documents, delivery and pet/vehicle permissions. One shared family timeline that ignores individual documents or start dates.
6. HandoverFiled record, receipts, restrictions, renewal, tax/company calendar and unresolved owners.Letting the engagement end at card collection.

Ask the provider to show the critical path with ranges, dependencies and a named contingency owner. There is no responsible universal processing promise: nationality, sponsor, authority, document readiness, medical results and local queues can all change the timeline. A provider may prepare and chase; only the authority decides.

The home is infrastructure

Verify the address, contract and daily radius before paying

A home search is more than a property portal shortlist. Set a temporary-stay budget so that you can inspect homes, travel to the actual workplace and school, and review the tenancy before a larger commitment. Ask who represents the tenant and who pays the agent. Obtain the owner's or representative's authority, written deposit purpose and refund triggers, full lease, payment schedule, inventory, maintenance responsibility and a traceable receipt before transferring money. A public 2026 deposit dispute is a reminder to make these points explicit—not proof that any particular landlord acted unlawfully.

In Dubai, an Ejari registration produces an official tenancy certificate. The Dubai Land Department lists app/website and trustee-centre channels with different current fees. Its own guidance says the minimum Ejari term is one year. Confirm who registers, which document will be issued and when; do not confuse a booking form or short hotel stay with a registered long-term tenancy. Abu Dhabi and other emirates have their own tenancy procedures, so a Dubai-specific checklist must be adapted rather than copied.

Location testDoor-to-door work, school, hospital, groceries and partner's routine at the correct timesCheap space can impose a second car or an unworkable commute.

Buying can be sensible for some households, but it is not a substitute for route eligibility. Renting first can test a district, work pattern and climate before a harder-to-reverse purchase. If a residence programme or mortgage is part of the case, obtain independent legal, financial and tax advice before making the property the centre of the immigration plan.

Every person has a separate plan

Family, school and healthcare cannot be left until arrival

The UAE Government currently states a resident can generally sponsor family at a salary of at least AED 4,000 per month, or AED 3,000 with accommodation, and adults 18 or over undergo medical fitness testing. That is a starting screen, not a promise for every relative. Record the relationship evidence, each person's passport and status, consent/custody where relevant, insurance and the exact permitted work activity of a spouse. Living in the UAE as a dependant should not be treated as automatic permission to take any job.

For school, compare more than the headline tuition. Dubai's KHDA school-fees fact sheets disclose mandatory and optional charges, while admissions, grade placement, language/curriculum, special support, transport and places must be verified with the school. If the household wants a later return to UK or another education system, ask the destination and future institution about qualification recognition and residency/fee rules; a Facebook discussion is not a reliable blanket answer. Abu Dhabi schools need the relevant local authority and school-level checks, not a KHDA-only lookup.

UAE Government—family residence ↗ · KHDA school-fees fact sheets ↗

Insure the actual household, not a theoretical average resident

Official UAE guidance distinguishes responsibility by emirate: Dubai employers cover employees while sponsors arrange cover for resident dependants; Abu Dhabi's employer/sponsor duties include a specified family scope. Since 1 January 2025, employers must also buy a health policy before a residence permit is issued or renewed for private-sector employees and domestic workers; the official guidance lists an exception for work permits issued before 1 January 2024. Before committing to a move, verify the start date, approved network, co-pay, emergency care, maternity, chronic-condition treatment, medication, pre-existing-condition underwriting and what happens between arrival and coverage. An older or medically complex dependant can make insurance a feasibility decision rather than an administrative afterthought.

UAE Government—health insurance by emirate ↗

Household member file: for each lead applicant, spouse, child and other dependant, record their route, right to work or study, issuing authority, documentary proof, travel date, insurance start, bank or payment need and post-arrival task owner. Pets have a separate veterinary/permit timeline. This prevents “family included” from hiding missing individuals.

From introduction to usable money

Banking support has levels—and no approval guarantee

“We help open a bank account” can mean sending a link, making an introduction, checking the evidence or managing a complex application. Ask which. The Central Bank's anti-money-laundering rulebook distinguishes source of wealth—how a person's overall wealth was accumulated—from source of funds for a particular incoming transaction. The bank also needs a coherent picture of identity, tax residence, beneficial ownership where applicable and expected account activity. Its risk-based decision remains its own.

The evidence dossier that travels with the application

Keep a clean, dated index of passport and Emirates ID status; current and former addresses; all tax-residence and identification numbers; employment, contract, invoice and financial statements; company register, licence and beneficial ownership; how wealth was built; the particular sale, dividend, gift, inheritance or business payment being transferred; sending account statements; and expected future counterparties, currencies and volume. Supply only what the institution requests through a secure channel. A bank may ask for more, or decline without a provider being able to reverse the decision.

For a founder contemplating property finance, request a separate borrowing-feasibility check. A transaction account does not establish how long an income history a lender will require or whether a mortgage will close when a property reservation expires. Likewise, an EMI/payment account or card processor is not the same as a bank deposit account and does not validate the tax or immigration structure.

Separate the legal questions

A residence card is not a tax exit strategy

A good relocation brief records four different decisions: permission to live and work, UAE individual tax residence, the tax position of each company or business activity, and the source-country rules that continue after departure. For UAE domestic individual residence, the Federal Tax Authority explains a 183-day presence test and other tests involving 90 days or a primary home/centre of interests; certificate evidence and a treaty claim have their own requirements. A free-zone company, Ejari, bank account or Emirates ID is evidence for a particular purpose, not a universal tax answer.

A UK mover must consider HMRC's statutory residence test, homes, days, work and ties, and any departure filing. A US citizen or resident alien abroad remains within US worldwide-income rules, with possible relief subject to eligibility and filing. For an individual carrying on UAE business, the Federal Tax Authority says corporate tax can apply when UAE business-activity turnover exceeds AED 1 million in a calendar year; wages, personal investment and real-estate investment income are excluded from that business-turnover test. A company's tax and compliance position is separate again. Do not use “tax free” as a substitute for a written, jurisdiction-specific opinion.

For a freelancer, founder or private client, require more than a formation quote

QuestionWritten answer to request
Activity and permissionWhich entity/licence and personal immigration/work route cover the actual client work and place of performance?
Control and substanceWhere are decisions and staff located; which company and person bear payroll, contract and tax obligations?
Recurring complianceWho owns bookkeeping, VAT, corporate-tax registration/returns, beneficial ownership, audit if applicable and renewal dates?
Payments and borrowingWhich bank, merchant processor and fallback can support the real transaction pattern, and what evidence is missing?
Private wealthHow are programme eligibility, personal tax, succession/family governance, source of wealth and any regulated investment product separated?

A company can be useful, but opening one does not itself grant a resident card, permit all executive work, establish personal tax residence or force a bank to onboard it. “High net worth” describes complexity, not a single immigration or tax route. Ask advisers to disclose their licence, jurisdictions, conflicts and referral/product commissions.

Physical move and border

Price the shipment all the way to the room it must reach

Get a pre-move survey and one detailed inventory before asking movers to quote. Compare air, sea and groupage only against the same inventory, declared value, dates and destination. A lower freight line can hide origin packing, export documents, destination clearance, port charges, storage, difficult access, lift restrictions, delivery/unpacking and cover exclusions. Ask who the destination agent is and when liability transfers. “Door to door” should identify both doors and every intermediate paid step.

Dubai Customs describes conditions for personal-effects clearance and possible relief for used household goods; goods in commercial quantities and vehicles are different cases. Do not load a container assuming “all personal goods are duty free”. Ask the broker for a written eligibility view, inventory format, passport/residence evidence, restricted-goods check, port/emirate routing and an itemised destination-charge schedule before dispatch. If the residence process slips, calculate storage at origin and destination rather than hoping the container can wait for free.

Pets: make the veterinary, airline and home dates meet

The two-dog UK couple's forum question illustrates why “pet friendly” is not one checkbox. Name the origin veterinarian, UAE permit applicant, carrier, arrival-port handler and landlord before selecting a flight. MOCCAE's 2026 import guidance describes a permit valid for 90 days, microchip and vaccination documentation, a veterinary health certificate, and extra rabies-test evidence for high-risk origin countries. For a dog or cat leaving Great Britain, the UK requires the UAE-specific export health certificate 3926; it is not the EU animal health certificate. Check the current rules for the actual species, breed, origin and transit, plus the airline's heat/season and carriage rules. Time the permit and certificates against the flight rather than ordering every document at the start of a long house search.

Route gateEvidence or decision before bookingWho confirms it
Every dog or catMicrochip matching the health certificate; vaccination record with animal details and vaccine dates; competent-authority health certificate; prior MOCCAE import permit; compliant carrier and entry-port release. MOCCAE's personal-import limit is two cats/dogs per person per year, with a stated exception for returning resident animals. Screen dog breed against the current prohibited-breed list before spending on transport.MOCCAE, origin official veterinarian, airline and arrival handler—not a mover's generic “pet-friendly UAE” promise.
Great Britain → UAEThe United Kingdom appears on MOCCAE's current low-rabies-risk list. Arrange export health certificate 3926 through the appropriate UK authority and official vet; Northern Ireland has a different application channel. A low-risk classification does not waive the import permit, core vaccinations, health certificate or airline checks.APHA/DAERA and the official vet for export; MOCCAE for import and port release.
High-risk origin or complex transitMOCCAE also requires a qualifying rabies-antibody test from an approved laboratory for high-risk origin countries. Its rule sets a minimum result of 0.5 IU/ml and different timing after a first/expired vaccination versus a valid booster. Check the current country classification and transit conditions for the actual route rather than copying the UK case.MOCCAE and the origin official veterinarian before flights, tests or short-lived documents are bought.

MOCCAE's current vaccination list specifies dogs: rabies, distemper, parvovirus, infectious canine hepatitis and leptospirosis (with a stated testing alternative where the exporting country does not vaccinate); cats: rabies, panleukopenia, rhinotracheitis and calicivirus. The rule also calls for internal and external parasite treatment during the 14 days before shipping, recorded in the health certificate or animal passport. Have the official vet reconcile vaccine brand, validity, microchip and the latest country-specific certificate wording—an old pet passport or generic vaccination summary may not contain what the UAE release check needs.

For the forum couple's two dogs, the current MOCCAE authority lines would be AED 400 for two import permits plus AED 1,000 for two dog releases: AED 1,400 before official-vet certificates, any tests, crates, airline freight, handling or the cost of pet-suitable accommodation. That is an official-fee subtotal, not a pet-relocation quote. Get the carrier's written acceptance for the exact breed, size, crate and travel date, a named collection/release agent at the chosen port, and a backup boarding plan if the home or flight date slips.

Vehicles: compare the landed and registered car with a local replacement

Get the chassis/VIN, age, origin, ownership and technical specifications checked with the customs broker and registration authority before loading. Price freight, marine cover, customs and any duty/tax, port handling, inspections, modifications, registration, local insurance and time without the car. Dubai RTA's imported-vehicle registration service calls for a Customs Card and technical inspection steps; a shipping quote alone does not establish road eligibility. Compare that all-in result with selling at origin and buying or leasing locally. For a driving licence, the emirate and issuing country determine whether exchange is available; keep a separate plan for driving legally on arrival.

UK vehicle stop/go test: Dubai RTA says a right-hand-drive vehicle cannot be registered there for ordinary road use, except with a classical plate. That makes many UK cars a registration feasibility issue before they are a freight-price issue. Do not ship one on the assumption that a paid customs entry guarantees ordinary plates. Obtain written vehicle-specific confirmation for the actual emirate and intended use; the Dubai rule is not a claim about every other emirate.
Step for a private Dubai importWhat to secureCost or failure to expose
1. Origin and eligibilityVIN, ownership, driving side, specifications, modification history and an emirate-specific registration check. If exporting from the UK for 12 months or more, DVLA says notify permanent export using the V5C section and retain the rest of the log book for overseas registration.A non-registerable car can still accumulate freight, port and customs costs. Get a written stop/go answer before loading.
2. Freight and customsOne quote for freight/insurance and port handling; original invoice, packing list, bill of lading and identity documents for a shipping-company entry. Dubai Customs evaluates and inspects the vehicle and publishes 5% duty on its assessed value; the household-goods relief should not be assumed for the car.Keep the Customs-assessed value separate from the origin sale price and ask for an itemised customs/payment receipt.
3. Conformity and registrationCustoms Card/electronic Customs Certificate, Emirates ID, insurance, technical inspection and any Gulf-specification evidence RTA requires. MOIAT offers a used-import product-status statement to confirm eligibility for registration, with a published AED 200 service fee where that statement is needed.Inspection failure, required modification, insurer refusal and RTA/plate fees are not covered by a shipping quote.

Worked tax illustration, not a market quote: suppose Dubai Customs accepts an assessed vehicle value of AED 50,000 inclusive of the relevant freight and insurance value. At its published 5% rate, duty would be AED 2,500. The Federal Tax Authority's automotive guide says imported cars carry 5% import VAT on the customs value including applicable freight, insurance and customs fees; using AED 52,500 as the illustrative VAT base gives AED 2,625 VAT. The two tax lines therefore total AED 5,125. If this hypothetical owner separately pays AED 4,500 freight/insurance and needs MOIAT's AED 200 statement, those named cash lines alone total AED 9,825—still excluding origin handling, port/agent fees, storage, inspection, repairs, RTA registration and plates, local insurance and time without a car. Customs may assess a different value, so use the broker's written calculation for an actual VIN.

Make the alternative equally concrete: local replacement cost − net proceeds from selling the existing car at origin + local registration/insurance. Compare that against the import cash lines and the value of keeping a car you already own. For a UK right-hand-drive car intended for ordinary Dubai use, the RTA registration restriction may make the comparison decisive before any price arithmetic. The driving licence is another file: ask RTA whether the person's issuing country qualifies for exchange and what they may drive during the interim.

Comparison framework—not a ranking

Compare the provider's accountable work, not its “full-service” label

The search results mix corporate movers, destination concierges, immigration advisers, tax/company boutiques, property finders and directories. Some list a large network; others have excellent shipping detail. We do not rank named UAE providers without consistent current evidence of licence, scope, price and outcomes. Instead, send the same household brief to appropriate providers and compare the written answers below.

The comparable proposal request

Ask each candidate for: (1) route and workstream assumptions; (2) named lead and actual executing entities; (3) licence/professional boundary; (4) concrete deliverables and documents; (5) likely sequence, dependencies and risks; (6) price by service, person and phase, tax treatment and third-party charges; (7) exclusions, revision/refusal/delay policy; (8) data handling and referral/commission disclosure; and (9) a handover and post-approval schedule. Compare like-for-like scope before price. “We handle everything”, guaranteed permit/bank account, property-as-residence shorthand and a package total without exclusions are warning signs.

The better proposal may be a small team of named specialists with a coordinator; a single logo is useful only if it remains accountable for the handoffs. For an employer-funded move, get the employee, HR, immigration adviser and mover into one responsibility chart so the employee does not pay for a task the company already promised.

When is a coordinator worth paying for?

A solo employee with an employer handling the visa and no freight may only need a narrow home-search or source-country tax engagement. A family with school, medical, pet and housing deadlines may benefit from one coordinator who owns the dependency map, but should still see the underlying specialists and fees. A founder moving both household and company needs accountable joins between immigration, licensing, banking, payroll and family arrival; buying a formation package without those joins is false economy. For a private-wealth household, coordination can help preserve a single evidence chronology, while tax, legal, property and investment judgments remain with independently qualified advisers. Ask what failure the coordination fee actually prevents, who resolves an exception, and what work remains yours.

A budget you can actually use

Do not ask for one “UAE relocation cost” number

A single average would mix a solo employee with an employer-funded visa, a self-paying couple with two suitcases, a family needing private school and a founder moving a company and household. Even a correct authority fee is only for that exact service and can differ by channel or emirate. Get an itemised quote, then build three budgets with dates rather than multiplying a monthly living-cost estimate.

Published charges: a small, checkable part of arrival cash

These are authority-published examples checked on 19 September 2026, not a universal UAE move price. They apply to the stated Dubai channel or UAE pet service; recheck before payment. Government/service fees, refundable deposits, professional fees and private-market prices belong on separate lines.

For example, one Dubai flat using the DLD online channel and a small DEWA meter has AED 2,332.75 in those three published registration, utility-deposit and activation lines alone (177.75 + 2,000 + 155). AED 2,000 of that is a deposit, not a consumed fee. It excludes rent, tenancy security, agent commission, cooling, internet, visa/ID, insurance, school, freight and professional support; it must never be sold as a full relocation estimate. A villa, different channel, meter or emirate changes the calculation.

Normalize competing quotes as professional fee + taxes + official fees + documents/attestation + each dependant + third parties + housing/shipping + renewals and annual compliance. For a freelancer, add licence, bookkeeping and payment-tool costs; for a company, formation, registered office, payroll, accounts, tax/audit and closure; for a private-wealth household, programme fees, independent legal/tax/succession work and regulated-product costs. Ask who pays each invoice directly and which amounts are refundable.

A December 2025 video marketed as a “2026 cost” guide correctly prompted us to separate housing setup, administration, school, insurance and temporary transport. We did not adopt its rental, insurance or school price ranges: some are unsourced and its Ejari figure differs from the Dubai Land Department's live channel-specific fee. Use a real property, school fee sheet, insurer quote and written provider scope for your model.

After approval

The work ends with a usable handover, not a card

Require the written route assessment and assumptions; indexed copies of filed forms and evidence; receipts, reference numbers, appointments and authority messages; residence and work restrictions for each person; a calendar for permit, insurance, licence, lease, school, tax and accounting renewals; and a list of unfinished tasks with named owners. Keep the bank onboarding status, shipment proof and landlord inventory in that file. Decide who can act during travel or an emergency and which support after the initial package is billed separately.

An undated forum question from a person who had already left the UAE asked about obtaining a former bank statement. The exact bank procedure must be checked with that institution, but the lesson extends to any departure: keep accessible payroll, account, tax, company, rent, utility, insurance and school records; document lease and deposit closure; and retain enough liquidity to leave if an employment or family plan fails. A provider who only collects approval paperwork but leaves the household unable to operate or exit has not delivered the whole move.

Frequent travel adds a separate status check. ICP has a service for certain residents who remain outside the UAE for more than six months, but it expressly excludes Dubai-issued residence permits and lists category exemptions. Do not turn a forum answer into a universal “180-day rule”: check the issuing emirate, category, current authority service and intended travel dates before relying on an exception.

How this guide was researched

We captured the current English UK-view Google result set for “uae relocation services” and scored the ten observed organic landing pages before choosing article topics. One first-position site could not be read because of an invalid certificate; its coverage remains unknown. We then checked official UAE, UK and US sources and ran four small, capped collections of public social posts. Two of twelve Reddit threads, two of three Facebook groups, all eight exact forum pages and all four full video transcripts returned. The social sample is purposive, noisy and not representative; anecdotes are used to discover decisions and contradictions, never to establish a rule or average.

Some current official information can change without notice. “UAE” here includes emirate-specific examples labelled as such; Dubai customs, Ejari, RTA and KHDA guidance must not be treated as automatically applicable in Abu Dhabi or the other emirates. We did not rank providers or infer a guaranteed outcome from their marketing.

Questions movers ask

UAE relocation services FAQ

What do UAE relocation services actually include?

There is no single package. One firm may handle visas, another household goods, and another home and school search. Ask for written deliverables, the named professional, third-party handoffs, excluded fees and a post-arrival owner.

How much does it cost to relocate to the UAE?

A single average hides different moves. Compare official route fees, advice and coordination, documents, each dependant, temporary and permanent housing, deposits, insurance, schools, freight, vehicles, pets and annual renewals. Build arrival, first-year and normal-year budgets.

Can I work in the UAE on a visit visa?

No. A visit visa does not authorise employment. Confirm the residence and work route before resigning, accepting local work or scheduling a start date.

Can a UK citizen move to Dubai after Brexit?

Yes if an applicable UAE route is approved, but UK citizenship does not itself give UAE residence or work permission. The UAE route and the UK statutory residence/tax position must be assessed separately.

Can a foreign remote worker use the UAE virtual-work route?

The official one-year self-sponsored route requires evidence of remote work for an entity outside the UAE, monthly income of at least US$3,500, insurance and medical fitness. It is not a general permission to serve UAE clients.

Does opening a UAE company grant residence or work rights?

No. Incorporation, a business licence, personal immigration status, permitted work, tax residence and bank approval are separate decisions. Map the actual activity and authority requirements before buying a formation package.

Does buying property automatically give me Golden Residency?

No. ICP sets category-specific investment and other conditions. A qualifying property may support an application, but purchase alone is not an approval and not a full tax or banking plan.

Can a provider guarantee a visa or bank account?

No. A provider can assess, prepare and coordinate, but the authority or bank decides. A guarantee should be treated as a warning sign.

What should I prepare to open a UAE bank account?

Prepare identity, address and tax-residence evidence, income or business records, beneficial ownership where relevant, how wealth accumulated, evidence for the particular transfer and expected account activity. Requirements are institution- and risk-specific.

Is 183 days always necessary for UAE tax residence?

No blanket rule is safe. The Federal Tax Authority describes several domestic individual tests, while treaty-certificate evidence and the other country's residence rules can differ. A visa, Ejari or free-zone company alone does not settle tax residence.

Should we find a school before signing a lease?

For a family, confirm realistic school admission, full fees and transport before committing to a district. Run the work and school journeys at normal times; a cheap home with an unworkable daily route is not a cheap solution.

Should I rent temporarily before taking a long lease?

Often it is a useful risk-control choice, not a universal legal requirement. It allows inspections, commute trials, school confirmation and document progress before paying a deposit and committing to a permanent home.

Can I ship used household goods without customs charges?

They may qualify for a personal-effects exemption if the relevant customs conditions and evidence are met. New or commercial goods and vehicles are different. Confirm the exact port, inventory and destination charges before dispatch.

What should a relocation provider hand over at the end?

Ask for the route memo and assumptions, complete filed applications, receipts and authority messages, permit restrictions, a renewal calendar, a cost and task register, and named owners for unresolved banking, tax, home, school or shipment work.

Can I rely on Reddit, Facebook, forums or YouTube for UAE rules?

Use firsthand accounts to discover practical questions and hidden costs. Verify every legal, tax, bank, school, insurance and customs answer with the competent authority or qualified professional; even confident social replies can be wrong.

Do I need a company-formation package if I am moving as an individual?

Usually not merely to relocate. First identify the personal residence and work route, home, insurance and banking needs. A company or freelance licence is relevant only when the actual business activity requires it; request a separate operating-cost and compliance plan.

Can a spouse on a family-sponsored residence visa take a job?

Family residence and permission to work are separate. The hiring establishment should check and obtain the applicable MOHRE or other authority work permit before the spouse starts work.

What are the published Dubai Ejari and DEWA move-in charges?

As checked on 19 September 2026, Dubai Land Department lists AED 177.75 for Ejari through its app/website or AED 220 at a trustee centre. DEWA lists a refundable AED 2,000 flat or AED 4,000 villa security deposit and small-meter activation from AED 155. Confirm the channel and property before paying; rent and many other costs are additional.

What documents do I need to bring a dog or cat from Great Britain?

Check the current UAE MOCCAE import permit, microchip, vaccinations, veterinary certificate and any origin-risk requirements, plus the carrier and receiving home's rules. Great Britain has a UAE-specific export health certificate, 3926. Coordinate its timing with the UAE permit and flight; a general EU animal health certificate is not a substitute.

Is a full-service relocation coordinator worth paying for?

It depends on the number of linked decisions. A simple employer-funded individual move may need only narrow assistance. A family with school, pets and medical needs, or a founder moving both company and household, may benefit from a coordinator who owns a written dependency map. Ask which work the fee actually covers and who resolves failures.

Can I bring two dogs when relocating to the UAE?

MOCCAE currently allows up to two cats or dogs per individual per year for personal import, with a stated exception for returning resident animals. Each dog still needs a prior import permit, compliant microchip and veterinary/vaccination evidence, an acceptable breed and port release. Check the live service and your actual airline and housing before booking. The current MOCCAE permit and release fees total AED 1,400 for two dogs, excluding transport and origin costs.

Can I import my right-hand-drive UK car and register it in Dubai?

Dubai RTA says a right-hand-drive vehicle cannot be registered there for ordinary road use unless it has a classical plate. Obtain a vehicle-specific registration decision before shipping. For any eligible import, separately budget freight, Dubai Customs duty, import VAT, port costs, conformity, inspection, registration and insurance; customs clearance alone is not road registration.
